FAQ's

Oestrogel is a topical treatment used to help manage symptoms of menopause, particularly low oestrogen levels. It contains estradiol, a form of oestrogen similar to the one naturally produced in your body and helps to relieve common menopause symptoms like hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness and sleep problems.

The gel is applied once a day, either in the morning or evening to a large area of skin on each shoulder, outer arm, or mid-inner thigh. The usual daily dose is 2 measures (i.e. 2 pumps) of gel. The Pump Pack will last four weeks.

Most people begin to notice improvements from HRT within a few weeks, but this can vary depending on your symptoms, the type and dose of HRT prescribed, and how your body responds. Symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance and mood changes often start to improve within 2โ€“4 weeks, while benefits for energy levels, joint aches, vaginal dryness and brain fog may take 6โ€“12 weeks to fully settle.

Youโ€™ll know HRT is working when symptoms become less frequent, less intense, or easier to manage, and your overall quality of life improves, for example, better sleep, more stable mood, improved focus, and feeling more like yourself again.

Common side effects are painful periods that may be heavier or last longer than usual, abnormal or irregular bleeding and white or yellow vaginal discharge. Other side effects are mood swings, migraine, vertigo, flatulence, increase in the volume of the uterus, vaginal yeast infection, and feeling of weakness.

HRT is not suitable for everyone and carries a number of risks. The following diseases are reported more often in women using HRT medicines which circulate in the blood compared to women not using HRT: Breast cancer, Abnormal growth or cancer of the lining of the womb (endometrial hyperplasia or cancer), Ovarian cancer, Blood clots in the veins of the legs or lungs (venous thromboembolism), Heart disease, Stroke, Probable memory loss if HRT is started over the age of 65.
