FAQ's

Femoston is a cyclical combined Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). It contains two types of female hormones, oestrogen (oestradiol) and progestogen (dydrogesterone). Femoston is used in postmenopausal women with at least 6 months since the last period.

During days 1 to 14 of the cycle, take one tablet daily containing 1 or 2 mg oestradiol, and during days 15 to 28 of the cycle, take one tablet daily containing 1 or 2 mg oestradiol and 10 mg dydrogesterone. Immediately after the 28 day cycle, you start the next treatment.

Most people begin to notice improvements from HRT within a few weeks, but this can vary depending on your symptoms, the type and dose of HRT prescribed, and how your body responds. Symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance and mood changes often start to improve within 2–4 weeks, while benefits for energy levels, joint aches, vaginal dryness and brain fog may take 6–12 weeks to fully settle.

You’ll know HRT is working when symptoms become less frequent, less intense, or easier to manage, and your overall quality of life improves, for example, better sleep, more stable mood, improved focus, and feeling more like yourself again.

Abdominal swelling or pain, acne, back pain, bloating, breast enlargement, pain or tenderness, changes in sex drive, diarrhoea, dizzy, excessive thickening of the lining of the womb, feeling generally unwell, flatulence, headaches, indigestion, insomnia (difficulty falling and staying asleep, poor quality of sleep), irregular or intermenstrual bleeding, itching, migraine, missing, heavy or painful periods, mood changes such as feeling down or anxious, nausea, pain in the extremities, pelvic pain, rashes and dry skin, spasms (contractions) of the womb, stomach cramps, swelling of the ankles, feet or fingers, tiredness, vaginal discharge and infections, and weight changes.

HRT is not suitable for everyone and carries a number of risks. The following diseases are reported more often in women using HRT medicines which circulate in the blood compared to women not using HRT: Breast cancer, Abnormal growth or cancer of the lining of the womb (endometrial hyperplasia or cancer), Ovarian cancer, Blood clots in the veins of the legs or lungs (venous thromboembolism), Heart disease, Stroke, Probable memory loss if HRT is started over the age of 65.
